VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME

Our volunteers are a group of people who provide and invaluable service to our community and to survivors of sexual violence in South East New Brunswick. We are a trans-inclusive organization and welcome any trans women, genderqueer women, and non-binary people*. Involvement with the Jade Centre gives volunteers the opportunity to gain experience, knowledge and skills in many areas, including crisis intervention, advocacy, non-profit organizations and a variety of issues related to sexual violence.

Our volunteers take between 4-6 shifts a month, during which they are on-call. When requested, they accompany those who have been sexually assaulted to the hospital. Our volunteers are actively involved in different aspects of Centre work (i.e. public speaking, advocacy, fundraising, etc) and are expected to attend the monthly meetings.

*those who identify as men and are interested in volunteering are still encouraged to reach out

The Jade Centre (formerly the South East Sexual Assault Centre) would like to acknowledge that the land on which we operate our services is the traditional unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) and Mi’kmaq peoples. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) and Mi’kmaq peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) titles and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.
